Hi all,
I volunteered at the farm this past weekend and, as usual, had lots of fun with the zoo animals. I was delighted to have Rambo allow me to stroke his handsome face. That was a first for me. It's great to spend some quality time with them, to get to know them, and to have them feel 'taround me.
It takes me a bit of time to clean the yard, partly because the yard is pretty large and partly because I can't resist spending time sitting on the ground to see who will come up and visit me. I can always count on Bam Bam the goat -- he's not part of the zoo fan club, though. He and Pebbles have their own club.
Arnold the pig has a cut on the back of his left ear, so I spent some time with him. It needed to be cleaned and Cheryl gave me some ointment to put on it. Arnold wasn't too thrilled to have me fussing with him, but I managed to follow him around the yard with the water and ointment. Eventually, he settled in and let me complete the job. He's a sweet guy!
I didn't know much about pigs when I started here. I was't aware that their hair was so coarse and rough. It feels strange to the touch, but I'm starting to like it. I like to brush Arnold and Annie to get the dust off their skin and, surprisingly, they seem to be okay with it, too.
I look forward to my next volunteer day (generally Saturday mornings). I'm hoping to get some more time with Rambo and Rocky and the chickens. They have ways to go before they seek out my company, but I'll keep trying to win them over!
